      Description

      The Irga-RV vortex flow meter (hereinafter referred to as the flow meter) is designed for measuring the flow of gases, saturated and superheated steam, and liquids (including aggressive and cryogenic media).

      At the Customer's request, supply of vortex flow meters can be customized for a specific medium.

      The flow meter is intended for both stand-alone use and for use as part of meters, metering units and measuring complexes.

      Together with the Irga-2 computer, SPT963 heat meter (manufactured by ZAO NPF LOGIKA) (or other similar computers), the flow meter measures the volume and flow rate of the medium under operating conditions; the flow rate and amount of gas set to standard conditions (760 mmHg and 20 °C); flow rate and amount of liquid and other parameters of the carrier.

      Note

      Principle of operation

      The vortex flow meter uses periodic generation and vortex breakdown formed on the edges of the vortal body when a gas or steam flows around it. Behind this body, a regular vortex path forms, which is called the Karman vortex street by the name of its researcher.

      The frequency of vortex breakdown depends on the geometrical dimensions of the vortal body, the diameter of the pipeline, and the flow velocity and is directly proportional to the flow rate of the medium being measured.

      Karman vortex street for each specific vortex flow meter is an ordered structure, where vortices are separated at a strictly defined distance, independent of the flow velocity. The frequency of vortex breakdown, which in a certain range is proportional to the flow rate, depends on the flow velocity.

      A vortal body in the form of a prism is mounted in the flowing part of the vortex flow meter perpendicular to the flow. Behind it, downflow, there is a piezoelectric transducer that converts pressure pulsations caused by vortex generation into an electrical signal. This signal is converted, amplified and carries information about the volumetric flow rate to the computer.

      New version of flow meter


      Since 2018, Globus LLC launched production of new flow meters, flow sensors (ultrasonic Irga-RU and vortex Irga-RV).

      Equipped with pressure and temperature sensors, the flow meter provides real-time conversion of the flow rate of the measured medium:

      • for steam - in tons per hour (t/h) or kilograms per hour (kg/h);

      • for liquid (especially high-temperature) - in tons per hour (t/h) or kilograms per hour (kg/h);

      • for cold water - in tons per hour (t/h), kilograms per hour (kg/h); m3/h;

      • for gases - in m3/h, set to standard conditions, or, at the request of the customer, in tons per hour (t/h) or kilograms per hour (kg/h).

      Advantages

      • The output signals are transmitted from the electronic unit of the flow meter.

      • This device has already proven itself in automated process control metering systems.

      • A version with an indication at the electronic unit of the flow meter or at the Irga-BP power supply has been developed.

      • The flow meter converts the volumetric flow rate of the measured medium into frequency (including impulse-number) or current signals, or a digital code (the specific type of output signal is indicated when ordering).

      • HART and 4-20 output signals are transmitted without adapters.

      • It is possible to transmit up to 3 signals simultaneously: frequency, current, RS-485.


      The Irga-RV flow meters can be full bore or submersible.

      * The pressure value during durability tests is taken in accordance with GOST 356.
      The maximum working pressure at an ambient temperature above 200 °C is taken in accordance with GOST 356.

      Versions of flow meters
      depending on the limit of the main relative error

      • y1  — ±1 %
      • y0,5  — ±0,5 % (air or another gas; carrier pressure is not more than 1.6 MPa)

      The Irga-RV full-bore flow meter have following Irga-RVP case versions

      • F - flange

      • FR - threaded flanges in accordance with GOST 9399 and lens seal

      • BF - without flange

      • BF (NK) - without flange, with weld rings

      • R - threaded connection in accordance with GOST 16078

      • S - connection for welding


      Irga-RVP case is tight at the maximum working pressure of the measured environment.

      The design of the flow meters ensures no leaks and emissions of the carrier into the environment.

      Advantages

      Advantages of the Irga-RV vortex flow meter

      Irga-RV vortex flow meter allows production of meters for measuring the flow rates of almost any gaseous and liquid media

      Independence of metrological characteristics from pollution (heavy hydrocarbons, solid particles in the gas stream - scale, sand, etc.):

      • autopurification of the vortal body working edges and surfaces is possible

      The flow meters withstand (parameters of the medium being measured):

      • pressure up to 400 atm (tests up to 1,000 atm were carried out, in fact there are no restrictions on the upper pressure limit)

      • temperature from -196 °C to +600 °C

      A wide range of measurements of the volumetric flow rate of the carrier (for gas, with increasing density, the lower measurement limit expands):

      • gas, steam: minimum 1:40

      • liquid: minimum 1:80

      Resistance to pneumatic and hydroshocks, to acoustic noise of a sound and ultrasonic range

      Immunity to the liquid phase in a gas

      No moving parts

      The Irga-RV flow meter can provide any output signal that allows integration of them into almost any working metering system for gas, steam, liquid, and thermal energy
